Pizza Rock, Las Vegas, NV

Pizza Rock was started in Sacramento, CA by pizza chef Tony Gemigani who has presently learned to master all different types of pizzas from Napoletan to Romanian to Chiago style. (His first restaurant is called Tony’s Pizza Napoletana, which is located in San Francisco). He has won many world-acclaimed pizza victor titles such as the 2007 WORLD CHAMPION PIZZA MAKER AT THE WORLD PIZZA CUP IN NAPLES, ITALY beating out even the Neapolitan Italians for the first time! He has even been known as the top pizza thrower in the world. Most impressively, Gemigani has earned the exclusive title of being the “the official U.S. ambassador of Neapolitan pizza by the city of Naples, a prestigious title only given to three people in the entire world” (website link: About Tony Gemigani). How amazing is that? Somehow, this just sounds way too good to be true. Well here I’d like to confirm that you’d better believe it!

Tonight I had some of the most amazing pizza, I truly think that the margherita is comparable to that of Italy’s! With a limit of 73 made per day, we were lucky to still have had some left for us to order!

Perfect texture, perfect chewy crust – not doughy, everything perfect! Solid 10 pizza. I will crave this whenever I’m in the mood for a margherita pizza. The tomato sauce has the perfect consistency and taste. This is probably because san marzano tomatoes are considered to be the best tomatoes, and need to meet certain requirements to be of certain DOP Italian standard. You must order this!! One of my faves.

ROMANA #III (prosciutto, arugula, parmigiano/ white cream sauce, chopped garlic, meatballs, EVOO/ gorgonzola, dates & pecans, apples, honey, nutella) – $32

This is divided into three parts, and is fairly large in size – a good way to easily try different toppings. Make sure you’re ordering this as something to share! The tomatoes on the first variation (title text) are very very fresh. No exaggeration here. My family all agreed that the second variation resembles the taste – and even texture of bone marrow! The last pizza was good as well, with an exciting touch of Nutella which was not too sweet.

NEW YORKER (Winner, Best Traditional in the World, Las Vegas – Sliced mozzarella, tomato sauce, sliced house link sausage, garlic, pepperoni, ricotta) – $23

This was very good; a combination of sweet (tomatoes) and savory (meat). The ricotta gives a unique touch, and the crust is perfect in every way – I usually don’t like the crust.


With rock music, dim lighting, multiple big-screen TVs and a bar, this place is great for a casual late night bite or a full-on feast of pizzas. Our waitress was very nice. This is definitely worth checking out. On the plus side, it’s not too far from a wonderful gelato place The Art of Flavors – a short drive down the street. Parking to Pizza Rock may be difficult to find, but the easy solution is to get free valet parking at the Downtown Grand Casino across the street. I would love to come back here to try their other pizza creations :)
