Cartems Donuterie – April 9, 2013

Ever have a donut craving? If ever, Cartems donuts are a must. Seriously, they’re the best donuts ever. There’s just something about the crunchy but spongy texture.. The seeping oils that come after being deep fried make it somehow juicy. Not to mention the creative flavors such as Earl Grey, and Bee Sting (parmesan and jalapeno). Something great about them, is that they don’t have an overly starchy flour taste. We got 3 boxes on our first visit! Really, this is like donut perfection. I wasn’t expecting them to be this good! The only inconvenience for me is the location. We visited the “pop-up shop” on Carall. This is pretty far from our home, so the only problem – despite the homey feel – is that we wouldn’t be able to stop by if in a rush, or looking for something fast and easy/to-go. Nevertheless, these are truly amazing donuts that will definitely make you go “WOW”.

Besides one of each flavor, we got a box of the cashier woman’s favorites, and that’s what I’ll be talking about in this post.

So in this box are 6 flavors; earl grey (bottom left), triple chocolate threat (middle left), the classic (top left), sweet snow (bottom right), salted caramel (middle right), and citrus dust (top right). Personally, I think my least favorite of this variety would have to be the salted caramel. I find that it was a bit too concentrated with the syrup, for my taste in caramel. Don’t get me wrong, it was still fabulous to munch on! Moving on to the sweet snow, I loved the aspect of the big coconut strips powdered with icing sugar. Tasty, and even slightly giving the idea of fallen snow. This donut was sweet!

Now can I just take a moment to talk about the chocolate dough? For some fascinating reason, to me it seems like the outer layer of the dough is moist and slightly more raw then the inside. I love it! It makes the chocolate strong and delicious. Speaking of chocolate, I absolutely adored the triple chocolate threat. It’s not too sweet, but still so rich and chocolatey. How do they do it?

Though the classic was quite good, and the citrus dust was very zingy and original, my favorite has got to be the earl grey. Something about it’s subtleness makes it sooooo good. Topped with rose petals, it gives a floral hint that I love about it. The originality and the girly pink touch makes my mouth water just thinking about it. Yummy yummy!

Also, something that makes me really like a food (business) is the presentation. I like how they present their brand – the look and all. Their donuts are clean looking, and very pretty! I even like the takeaway boxes – cardboard, but fits with their simple image. Oh, and let me not forget to mention how very very fresh they are!! It’s pretty amazing. BTW don’t mind the price! After your first bite, you will simply fall in love. It’s all worth it – even if you only get them once. Also, be sure to read “the cartems story” on their website – it will help you appreciate these sweet treats even more! So now, make sure you try these! You won’t regret it, I promise.
